The RAPD marker based specific DNA to race KJ301 has been cloned and transformed into a deletion mutant D-9 (KI1117). The transformants of the mutants which lost virulent phenotype were selected. Four avirulent transformants similar to wild type out of 36 transformants were seleted. This result might partially prove gene for gene hypothesis in which avirulrnce gene can be distrupted and restored through transformation, although genomic analysis by PFGE, Southern hybridiztion, and regeneration of original PCR products from avirulent transformants gave some discrepancy.
