Maggot therapy (MT) has been used for healing wounds of diabetic ulcer for a long time. The history, treatment method, case history of MT, and sterilization method of the maggot were reviewed. The key characteristics for the identification of Lucilia sericata and L. cuprina was also re-arranged. Larvae of L. sericata were reared and sterilized in the laboratory, and the developmental periods of immature stages of the L. sericata were tested. The axenic production was tested using four test agars (thioglycollate agar, chocolate agar, MacConkey agar, and blood agar) at 26.3℃ and checked after 12 hours of 1st instar larvae inoculation. The result was no micro-organisms appeared in the media. Egg period was shortest at 33.0℃ by 9.0 hours. The periods of the 1st and the 2nd instar larvae were shortest at 33.0℃ by 14.0 and 18.6 hours, respectively. The periods of the 3rd instar larvae and pupae were shortest at 29.1℃ by 285.0 and 171.0 hours, respectively. However, the mortalities at the lowest (15.4℃) and highest temperature (33.0℃) were higher than those at other temperatures. The developmental zero points were 10.5, 12.1, 9.6, 5.0, 6.3, and 6.3℃ for egg, the 1st, the 2nd, the 3rd instar larvae, pupae, and the total immature stage, respectively. The cumulative effective temperatures were 201.5, 325.9, 420.7, 7,348.7, 4,423.2, and 12,571.3 hour-degree for egg, the 1st, the 2nd, the 3rd instar larvae, pupae, and the total immature stage, respectively.
