The present study purposed to compare and analyze differences in parents' perception and requirements for the full?]day system of early childhood educational institutions according to their social factors and to provide basic materials for improving parents' perception on the system and for more efficient operation of the system. For these purposes, we formulated five research problems as follows. 1) How are parents' perception and requirements for the necessity of and problems in the full day system of early childhood educational institutions? 2) How are parents' perception and requirements for class formation in the full day system of early childhood educational institutions? 3) How are parents' perception and requirements for class teachers in the full day system of early childhood educational institutions? 4) How are parents' perception and requirements for programs in the full day system of early childhood educational institutions? 5) How are parents' perception and requirements for health, nutrition and safety management in the full day system of early childhood educational institutions? Subjects selected for this study, the survey tool used to collect data, and statistical methods used to analyze collected data are as follows. The subjects of this study are 300 parents who have preschoolers attending one of six kindergartens and childcare centers in Jinju City. The tool used in the survey was a questionnaire that was prepared for the purpose of this research based on previous researches in perception and requirements for the full day system of early childhood educational institutions and with the help of the supervising professor and a specialist in early childhood education. The survey was conducted by mail and by visits in person. A total of 300 questionnaires were distributed and 263 of them were recovered. Excluding insincere answers, we analyzed 207 questionnaires. We computerized collected data, and calculated frequencies and percentages according to the subjects' social factors using SPSS 10.0 for Windows. In addition, we performed cross analysis and multiple response analysis. In all analyses, the significant level was 0.05. Conclusions drawn from the results of this study are as follows. First, according to the results of this study, parents were in need of the full day system of early childhood educational institutions in order to commit themselves to their works, and parents' perception and requirements were different according to academic qualification and occupation. This suggests that parents' requirements are different according to their social factors. The biggest problems in the full day system of early childhood educational institutions were lack of full day programs and lack of facilities, and the most principal problem was that children got bored with full day class. Accordingly, for desirable operation of full day system, we need to research and develop various full day programs and reinforce the contents of education so that children can enjoy interesting educational environment with diversity. Second, with regard to class formation in the full day system of early childhood educational institutions, the largest number of parents demanded half day system for the morning time and full day system only for the afternoon time and wanted full day class to be extended to include elementary students' after school programs. Moreover, the desirable number of preschoolers in each full day class was 6~8, and the suitable staying time was from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. These results suggest that parents expect each class to be formed with same age children, the ratio of teachers to children to be 1:15, and each full day class to be formed with children whose physical development is similar. Third, with regard to perception on full day class teachers, most parents preferred married teachers who have experience in child rearing. Preferred teaching experience and academic qualification were 3~6 years and two year college graduates, respectively. In addition, the most preferred type of class teachers were those who are kind and caring like a mother. Fourth, with regard to perception on full day programs at early childhood educational institutions, parents wanted that programs for full day system would be recomposed differently from half day programs. In addition, contents to be emphasized in full day programs were special education such as art, piano and English. Items demanded to be included in afternoon programs were art, reading, outdoor play, story telling, free activities, physical expression, recess, scientific experiments, rhythm activities, Korean language education, field trip, nursery tales nursery rhymes, English, game, computer, cooking, children's drama and video watching in order of preference. Fifth, with regard to children's daytime nap, many parents wanted that only children who want to sleep have a nap at a certain fixed time. In addition, with regard to snack serving, they preferred planned menus but, depending on academic qualification and occupation, some parents said that the menus should be flexible according to situation. With regard to the management of children's health, parents thought that regular health examination and vaccination are required and children need to be trained so that they can prevent accidents or risks by themselves.
